What’sIn The Box? Special Edition
Cherrywood Fabrics + Liberty Box 2026 Quilty Mail Day
It’s time for another Quilty Mail Day! In this special edition of What’s In The Box?, I’m opening the 2026 Liberty Box from Fat Quarter Shop and my monthly Cherrywood Fabrics subscription. From hand-dyed fabrics and patriotic prints to exclusive quilting notions and a brand-new quilt pattern, there’s plenty of quilting inspiration packed into these deliveries. Let’s take a closer look at everything that arrived this month!
Cherrywood Fabrics Subscription ✨
I always look forward to seeing what arrives in my Cherrywood Fabrics subscription because every month is a surprise. This shipment included two beautiful hand-dyed fabrics: a rich grass green and a warm brown, both with the signature depth and texture that Cherrywood is known for. These fabrics will be heading straight into my growing stash for the Pitcher’s Boutique Nocturnal Nook project, where I need a wide variety of colors to bring the design to life. The subtle color variations in Cherrywood fabrics add so much character compared to a traditional solid fabric, making them perfect for detailed applique and artistic quilt projects.
Speaking of Cherrywood, the 2027 Cherrywood Challenge was recently announced, and this year’s theme honors the life and legacy of Jane Goodall. Participants will create original quilts inspired by Jane’s groundbreaking work with chimpanzees, her conservation efforts, and her message of peace, hope, and environmental stewardship. Cherrywood has put together a gorgeous challenge palette featuring rich jungle-inspired colors along with coordinating thread and an Onyx fabric option. I was secretly hoping for a steampunk theme this year, but Jane Goodall opens up so many creative possibilities that I’m planning to give the challenge another try. I’m still exploring ideas and sketching concepts, but I’ll be sure to share my progress as the project develops.
Fat Quarter Shop Exclusive - Liberty Box 2026 Limited Edition
Firework Fields Fat Quarter Bundle
The featured fabric collection in the Liberty Box is Firework Fields by Gracie Larson for Riley Blake Designs. This 12-piece fat quarter bundle combines soft reds, whites, and blues with florals, ginghams, fireworks, flags, and charming patriotic scenes. One of my favorite things about this collection is that it feels patriotic without being overly bold. The fabrics have a vintage, Americana feel that makes them versatile for seasonal quilts while still being usable throughout the year.
True Blue Wooden Ruler Rack
One of the most practical items in the box was the True Blue Wooden Ruler Rack. While it may not be the flashiest notion, it’s something I know I’ll actually use. I often have several rulers sitting on my cutting table while working on a project, and this rack provides a convenient place to keep them organized and within reach. Sometimes the most useful quilting notions are the simple ones that help keep the sewing room tidy.
Half Square Triangle Helper
The Half Square Triangle Helper is a unique quilting tool designed to simplify marking and cutting half square triangle units. The tool helps mark both sewing and cutting lines at the same time, making it easier to create accurate HST units with less measuring and fewer mistakes. Since many Fat Quarter Shop notions tie into projects and patterns they feature, I’m looking forward to giving this one a try on a future quilt.
Star Salute Metal Bookends
The heaviest item in the Liberty Box turned out to be the Star Salute Metal Bookends. Featuring the same star motif used throughout the box theme, these sturdy metal bookends are both decorative and functional. I love the suggestion that they can double as a display for magnetic needle minders, making them useful beyond simply organizing books and quilting magazines.
Patterns Included in the Box
Star Salute Quilt Pattern
The exclusive Star Salute quilt pattern ties the entire Liberty Box together. Designed to showcase the Firework Fields fat quarter bundle, the finished quilt measures approximately 60″ x 76½” and features striking star blocks throughout the design. An added bonus is that the quilt meets Quilts of Valor size requirements, making it a meaningful project option for quilters who enjoy creating donation quilts for veterans and service members.
Supporting the Quilts of Valor Foundation 🇺🇸
Star Salute Quilt Pattern
One of the things I appreciate about the Liberty Box is that it supports a meaningful cause. Fat Quarter Shop donates a portion of the proceeds from every Liberty Box sold, up to $5,000, to the Quilts of Valor Foundation. The mission of Quilts of Valor is to cover service members and veterans touched by war with comforting, healing quilts as a tangible expression of gratitude for their service and sacrifice. The Star Salute quilt pattern included in this year’s box even meets the size requirements for a Quilts of Valor quilt, making it a great option for anyone interested in creating a donation quilt. It’s always nice when a quilting purchase can help support both our hobby and a worthwhile organization.

Final Thoughts
Overall, the Liberty Box delivered a fun mix of fabrics, quilting notions, and project inspiration. While the Liberty Box isn’t my favorite seasonal box from Fat Quarter Shop, I still enjoy opening it every year to see what surprises are inside. The Firework Fields fabrics were my favorite part of the box, and I can definitely see myself using both the ruler rack and the metal bookends in my sewing room.
From a value perspective, the Liberty Box continues to be a solid purchase. My total cost, including shipping and taxes, was $52.61, while the contents of the box had an approximate retail value of $89.88. That’s a value difference of over $37, making it an enjoyable way to discover new fabrics, notions, and exclusive projects while supporting the quilting community.
Combined with this month’s Cherrywood Fabrics subscription, it was a great mail day filled with quilting possibilities, inspiration for future projects, and a few fun surprises along the way.
