Mystery Boxes Await!

It’s that time again — time to open up some mystery boxes and see what quilting treasures are inside! ✂️ In this month’s What’s In The Box! October 2025 video, I’m unboxing four boxes that bring all the cozy, creative energy of fall right into the sewing room. 🍂

Patchwork Prairie Delights

Fat Quarter Shop Sew Sampler Box – “Patchwork Prairie”

The October Fat Quarter Shop Sew Sampler Box will be a great addition to my sewing room.  It centered around a Pie Safe Evening on the Prairie 10″ Junior Staker by Melissa Gilbert (the actress from Little House on the Prairie turned fabric designer for Riley Blake). The collection features harvest florals, woodland foliage, rustic plaids, and cozy fall tones — 24 pieces in all — with a retail value of $22.98.

The exclusive pattern this month was the Pie Safe Table Runner, a foundation-paper-pieced design that uses square-in-a-square blocks. I realized my box was missing the 5″ foundation papers (it happens!), but I plan to contact FQS for a replacement and still loved the pattern’s autumn look. Other notions included:

  • Sewing Mate Magnet Pickup Tool ($12.98 value) — a telescoping wand that retrieves pins and needles from the floor or under the machine (feline- and toe-safe!).

  • Add-A-Quarter Ruler, 6″ Pink Edition ($8.98 value) — This is “invaluable” for paper piecing.

  • Flowering Block #6 – What’s Up, Buttercup? ($4.98 value) — my latest 18½″ block for the year-long Flowering Quilt-Along, stitched in Tula Pink with Grunge Fog background.

I loved the whole “Patchwork Prairie” theme and the way Fat Quarter Shop balances seasonal fabric, fresh notions, and exclusive patterns. At about $40 per month for a retail value near $80, it’s still one of her favorite subscriptions.

Traditional Quilt Charm

Primitive Gatherings Quilt Box: A Cozy Delight

This month’s Primitive Gatherings Quilt Box is another knockout from Lisa Bongean’s team.  It included the “All Spice” quilt pattern — a crisp, cross-pieced jelly-roll design that creates beautiful movement without feeling busy. You’ll need 5½ yards for the background and 5 yards for backing, so it’s a generous project perfect for showing off the featured fabric.

Inside the box was a Pumpkin Spice Gatherings jelly roll, filled with cozy fall colors: pumpkin orange, moss green, rich plum, charcoal, and black — it looks just like a bundle of Michigan mums and autumn leaves. The box also continued the Thrive Quilt Puzzle BOM, which I have been sewing along with her mom. This month brought new Pam Buda fabrics for the flying-geese stars and a note that December will include the finishing pattern for the whole year-long project.

Other extras included a pack of creamy caramels (confirmed to be delicious but temporarily off-limits with Invisalign 😄) and a long-awaited Primitive Gatherings Quilting Journal — a hardcover graph-paper book for sketching block layouts and tracking projects. All together, it’s a warm autumn box filled with beautiful fabrics, a large project, and a few sweet treats.

Mystery Box Excitement

Unveiling the Ginger Quilter Mystery Box

I ordered all three mystery boxes (A, B and C) from The Ginger Quilter, and this round was packed with value — no tiny scraps here, but mostly ½-yard and full-yard cuts from top brands like Art Gallery, Riley Blake, Cotton + Steel, and Figo Fabrics.

I opened with a fun bonus — a quilty hair clip (I had already been wearing it for weeks) and an adorable hedgehog sticker carrying fat quarters. From there it was fabric heaven:

  • A yard of “Free as the Ocean” by Elise Audet for Riley Blake — a beautiful aqua print perfect for landscape quilts or wave/sky effects.

  • “Hey Boo” by Lella Boutique for Moda — festive Halloween prints and spiderwebs.

  • “Floralish” and “Grow and Harvest” by Katarina Roccella for Art Gallery — vibrant tropicals and orange blooms Carrie plans to use for a memorial quilt of her orange cat Sunny Boy.

  • “Ahora” 40-wt thread (200 yards).

  • Large half-yard cuts of Maureen Cracknell’s Trinkets Fusion, Fleet and Flourish, and Homebody collections.

  • Heather Bailey’s mint-green floral for Figo Fabrics and a deep red print from The Flower Society line — ideal for bindings.

Altogether I counted yards and yards of premium fabric for around $29 per box — a total steal. I love these boxes for building stash variety and has already used pieces from previous mystery boxes in quilts like Nocturnal Soul. Sign up for the Ginger Quilter newsletter to catch the next round before they sell out again!

Artistry in Fabric

Discover the Cherrywood Fabrics Box

Cherrywood’s October box delivered My favorite hand-dyed solids along with a surprise notion. This month included two deeply saturated Halloween-perfect fabrics that I immediately fell in love with — rich solid and swirled orange fabrics. I used Cherrywood’s black in my Raven block for the Nocturnal Soul QAL and noted how the hand-dyed veining looked just like feathers in paper piecing.

Also tucked inside was a Famore new rotary cutter — a ball-bearing, dual-handed design with a rubberized grip and easy-change blade (one screw, no washers!). It was originally a giveaway item from BadAss Quilters Society and a fun bonus for Cherrywood subscribers. I love that Cherrywood mixes quality hand-dyed fabric with useful notions, making each box feel like a small studio upgrade. I also teased her upcoming Storytime Challenge quilt, inspired by a public-domain author from the 1800s — more details coming soon!

🧩 Mini Charm Pack Club – Fat Quarter Shop

This month’s Mini Charm Pack Club from Fat Quarter Shop brought four beautiful collections that each have their own charm and personality:

  • Sunbonnet by Heather Briggs (My Sew Quilty Life) — soft florals and vintage prints in warm, comforting tones that feel timeless.

  • Delightfully Yours by Sherri & Chelsi — cheerful, spring-inspired colors with a modern cottage twist.

  • Lucky by Sweetwater — a playful, dog-themed collection filled with paw prints, plaids, and a touch of whimsy.

  • 30’s Playtime by Chloe’s Closet — classic reproduction prints in sweet pastels that add a nostalgic pop to any project.

I’ve been using these mini charms in my Tumbling Blocks Quilt, and they’re perfect for adding variety and depth without committing to full yardage. Each pack brings a little burst of inspiration to my scrappy sewing sessions!

🎨 Tim Holtz Eclectic Palette

The Tim Holtz Eclectic Palette from Hawthorne Supply Co. collection has been a perfect fit for my Steampunk Block of the Month,  project! The rich, distressed textures and moody color tones blend beautifully with the industrial gears and vintage motifs in the quilt. I love how these fabrics add depth and a weathered, timeworn look — exactly the aesthetic I want for my steampunk theme. Each block feels like it’s been pieced together from an old inventor’s workshop, and this palette brings that story to life.

🕰️ Steampunk Halloween Fabric – Quilted Twins Quilt Shop

I couldn’t resist this Steampunk Halloween fabric from Quilted Twins Quilt Shop — it’s such a fun mix of spooky and mechanical! The prints feature gears, clocks, and vintage machinery layered with bats, skulls, and moody Halloween tones. It has that perfect blend of eerie elegance and industrial grit, making it a great addition to my Steampunk BOM and other dark-themed fall projects.

🌿 San Diego Sewn Quilt Shop Haul

After finishing my Nocturnal Soul Quilt Along, I was lucky enough to win a $50 gift card to San Diego Sewn Quilt Shop, and I couldn’t wait to spend it! Amanda Harris, the owner, runs such a fun shop, and I definitely went a little over budget — but it was worth it. Here’s what I picked up:

  • 🍄 Forest Fungi Quilt Pattern – a whimsical design featuring leaves and mushrooms, with baby and throw-size options. It’s so cute, and I can’t wait to make it someday.

  • 🐈 Tropical Cat Panel – I’m not usually a panel person, but this one reminded me of my black cat lounging on our patio here in Florida. It has a tropical vibe with philodendron leaves and warm, sunny colors.

  • 🌺 Patio Fat Quarter Bundle – 18 beautiful fat quarters from Patio by Vanessa Lillrose and Linda Fitch for Wishwell Fabrics. The greens and pinks coordinate perfectly with the cat panel — they look like they were made for each other!

  • 💇‍♀️ Quilty Hair Clip – a rare find that looks like a tiny quilt block (and so fun to wear!).

  • 🩷 Quilty Sticker – tropical-themed and perfect for decorating my sewing drawers.

I love how this little shopping spree turned into a tropical mini collection that feels like “home.” Huge thanks to Amanda and San Diego Sewn for sponsoring such a fun giveaway — I’ll definitely be shopping there again!
