We’re here to guide you through every step of the process. My video tutorial gives you a visual guide in created the templates for this block.

    Step 1 – Make the Center 9-Patch

    Step 1: Choose Your Fabric:
    The 9 patch will use 5 of the dark A pieces, 2 of the medium A pieces and 2 of the light A pieces

    Step 2: Layout the pieces
    Arrange the fabric squares in a the order shown below taking care that the dark A pieces make an X shape.

    Step 4: Sewing the Rows:
    Start by sewing the fabric squares together in rows. Place the squares right sides together and use a 1/4-inch seam allowance. Press the seams in the direction of the arrows with an iron after sewing each row.

    Step 5: Assemble the Block:
    Once you’ve sewn all the rows, begin assembling the block by sewing the rows together. Match the seams carefully and use quilting pins to secure the pieces. Sew with a 1/4-inch seam allowance and press the seams in the direction of the arrows.

    Step 2 – Assemble the Long Rows

    Before we start adding the rows, we can put together all the long rows. Below is a diagram of all the strips with their respective letters and each will get a dark A piece on each side. Sew an A piece onto each end of each piece and iron towards the dark A piece. Make 1 of each of the sets below.

    Step 3 – Add Strips Around the Nine Patch

    Start by adding the short D strips to opposite sides of the Nine Patch, sew and iron in the direction of the arrows. After ironing the short strips add the long D strips we made in Step 2 to square out the block. ALWAYS make sure that the same colors go next to each other just like in the layout of the complete block.

    Once you have squared out the block, repeat these steps to attach the C short and long strips and the B short and long strips. Once you have the B strips on, the block is complete!

    Step 4 – Your Alabama Block is Complete!
