Cut the Pieces

Start by meticulously cutting out all the required pieces, ensuring that you mark your chosen colors accurately to achieve a flawless and stunning final design.
Equipped with your perfectly cut pieces, you’re now ready to embark on the creative process of crafting your November Barn Owl Barn Swallows block. Return to this space as we guide you through each step of the assembly, ensuring that your quilting experience is as enjoyable and rewarding as possible.
Make the Half Square Triangles
Make the following sets of HST using the fabric color numbers indicated. Below is shown how to build a HST.

- Make the HSTs (Half-Square Triangles) by marking one color of the B pieces with a diagonal line.
- Next, line up the different color fabrics with right sides together, creating four sets.
- Sew a 1/4″ seam on both sides of the diagonal line.
- Once sewn, carefully cut along the diagonal line to obtain two HST blocks.
- After that, iron the blocks towards the darker fabric and trim to 2″ square.





Make the Four Patch’s
Now make the 2 sets of 2 colorways of Four Patch’s in the block. Below will show the Fabric Colors and each Four Patch is a set of two.

To build a four patch, take 1 of each color patch and sew them together, iron towards the dark patch. Put two of the same color rows together so the seams nest. Sew and iron towards the top row.


Make the Strip Sets
Now make the 2 sets of 2 colorways of the strip sets in the block. Below will show the Fabric Colors and each strip set is a set of two. Sew strips together and iron towards the dark color.


Make the Flying Geese
Mark all the H pieces with a diagonal (1), this will be the sewing line when lining the H piece with the D piece. (2) Trim 1/4″ (3) From the sewing line and iron towards the corner. (4)







Make the Corners
For the corners we will be using the Patch A, all the HST’s and the 4 – four patches we made. There will be two different configurations of the corners. Below is the layout for both corners and you will make 2 of each corner. Once the corners are laid out, put them together in rows and iron in the direction of the arrows noted below.

Next sew the rows together, nesting seams, and iron in the direction of the arrows below.


Center Units
Layout the center units as noted below. There will be two colorways, so please note color placement of the strips. Sew the three pieces together and iron in the direction of the arrows. Make 2 units in each colorway.

Make the top and bottom rows.
Layout out two identical rows as noted below. Sew the units together, matching seams and iron towards the center unit. Make sure that your center units are matching strip colors.

Make the Center Rows
Put together the center row as indicated below in the diagram, sew and iron in the direction of the arrows.

Assemble the Rows!
Put the rows together as indicated below, Match all seams and iron in the direction the arrows indicated.
