    Supplies

    • Rotating Cutting Board (0ptional) – to help turn your pieces without touching them.
    • Quilt ruler: Ensure you have a quilt ruler on hand, as it will help in drawing precise lines and measurements.
    • Marking Pens – I like Frixion because they erase with heat.

    Step 1 – Cut the Pieces

    Before progressing further, it’s crucial to possess precise cutting instructions. You can easily access these guidelines in our free resource library, a valuable collection of information. There, you’ll find the cutting instructions ready for your use.

    Step 2 – Let’s construct the Flying Geese units.

    To do this, you will require pieces D and F. Begin by drawing a diagonal line on the back of the F pieces.

    Next, align an F piece with the D piece, ensuring the diagonal line runs from one corner to the center of D. Sew along this marked line, then trim the seam allowance to approximately 1/4″ and press it towards the corner. Repeat this process for the other corner. You should now have a total of 4 Flying Geese units.

    Repeat for the opposite corner

    Step 3 – Let’s assemble the Center Star unit.

    Begin by laying out the C, E, and Flying Geese units to create the star unit according to the provided diagram. Ensure that the seams are positioned as indicated in the diagram.

    Now, sew the rows and iron the pieces toward the patches C or E to reduce bulk. Once you have completed the rows, it’s time to join them together.

    Line up the top row with the center row, making sure to nest the seams for a precise fit. Sew these two rows together and then press the seam towards the center row.

    Repeat this process to add the bottom row to the center row, ensuring the seams are nested and sewing them together. Once completed, you’ll have your Center Star unit ready for the next step in your quilting project.

    Step 4 – Now, let’s create the Corners for your quilt block.

    There will be 2 long corners and 2 short corners. To begin with the long corners, you’ll require 4 B pieces of each color. Lay out these pieces in 2 piles, paying attention to the color orientation as shown in the picture below.

    Next, sew these pieces together according to the color arrangement in the diagram. After sewing, press the seams towards the dark B piece in each pair. This will help reduce bulk and create crisp, flat seams in your quilt block.

    For the short corners, take the remaining light-colored B pieces and attach them to the corners of the 2 A pieces that are left. After sewing these pieces together, press the seams towards the A piece.

    Step 5 – It’s time to assemble the Block!

    Begin by laying out the Center Star unit and adding two short corners to opposite sides of the center star. Sew these short corners onto the center star, and then press the seams towards the center block.

    Next, add the long corners to the remaining sides of the center star. Make sure to nest the seams for a precise fit. Sew these long corners in place and then press the seams towards the corners.
