Equipped with your perfectly cut pieces, you’re now ready to embark on the creative process of crafting your August Grackle Goose on the Pond block. Return to this space as we guide you through each step of the assembly, ensuring that your quilting experience is as enjoyable and rewarding as possible.
Step 2 – Make the Flying Geese
Draw a diagonal line on the back of the B7 pieces (1). Arrange the B7 pieces rights sides together with the B4 pieces (2). Sew a seam 1/4″ from the drawn line on both sides of the line. Cut on the line (3) and iron towards the B4 piece (4).

Step 2 – Make the Flip and Stitch Sections
To craft these sections, you’ll need to assemble pieces D and F.
Stitch and Flip #1
Start by drawing a diagonal line on all the F9 and F6 pieces. These F pieces will be sewn onto the D5 pieces with their diagonals parallel, forming the stitch and flip sections. There will be 4 sections of each set. The sets will be mirror images of each other. Next sew F6 onto D5, sew on the line, cut 1/4″ from the seam and iron towards F6. Repeat for F9, taking care that the seam lines in each set are parrallel.

Stitch and Flip #2
Repeat the steps above for Stitch and Flip #2. Use Pieces D10, F9 and F11. See diagram below!

Step 3 – Assemble the Center Sections
We will use the Stitch and Flip #2. Place the two sections together so that the F9 and D10 sections line up together. Match seams, sew and iron open. (1) Next, add the C8 piece to the F9 side of the 4 sections we just made and iron seams open. (2)

Step 4 – Build Corners
For the corners we will need the HST’s we built above, the Stitch and Flip #1 and the A1, A2 and A3 pieces. We will build two different sets of corners. Note the diagrams below for setting the pieces in each set of corners.

Start with the four patch in the corner, sew the four patch in rows and iron towards A1 and A2. Put the tow rows together nesting the seams, sew and iron seams open.

Sew the Stitch and Flip #1 to the bottom of the four patch above and iron seam toward the four patch. Sew the A3 to the Stitch and Flip #1 and iron towards A3. Sew the two sections we just built together and iron towards the four patch.

Repeat steps above for the mirror image corner, make 2.

Step 5 – Assemble the Block
Follow the diagrams below to put the pieces together to make the block. Unfinished size of block will be 12.5″ square
