You can find the cutting instructions and templates for this block below, so let’s dive right in! The pattern incorporates rotary cutting guidelines and templates if you opt to print the pattern.

Gather the necessary supplies:

Rotating Cutting Board (0ptional) – to help turn your pieces without touching them.
Quilt ruler: Ensure you have a quilt ruler on hand, as it will help in drawing precise lines and measurements.
Marking Pens – I like Frixion because they erase with heat.

Step 1 – Prepare the Pieces

Before progressing further, it’s crucial to possess precise cutting instructions. You can easily access these guidelines in our free resource library, a valuable collection of information. There, you’ll find the cutting instructions ready for your use.

Once all the pieces are meticulously prepared, come back to this point for the next phase of assembling the block.

Step 2 – Make the HST’s

For this phase, gather the “H” segments in both shades. Begin by marking a diagonal line on the reverse side of the lighter H fabric. Next, align the two distinct colors of H pieces with their right sides facing each other. At this juncture, stitch a 1/4″ seam on both sides of the marked diagonal line. Subsequently, carefully cut along the marked line, and press the seams toward the darker fabric. Duplicate this process to yield a total of 4 HST units.

Step 3 – Constructing the Four Corner Units

Now, let’s assemble the corner elements utilizing the HSTs we meticulously crafted, along with the “A”, “B”, and “C” segments. Arrange the components as illustrated in the diagram provided below. Our assembly will occur in two sections. The initial segment involves joining the Dark “A” piece with the HST, while the subsequent segment pairs the Light “A” piece with the “C” triangles. Take note, as the corner units are mirror images of one another.

Start by affixing the Dark “A” piece to the HST. Secure with pins, then sew the pieces together, finally pressing the seam towards the “A” piece. Following this, attach the upper “C” triangle to the Light “A” piece. Pin the sections together, sew, and iron the seam towards the “A” piece. When connecting the “A” pieces, ensure the right angles in both the “A” and “C” segments align to establish a straight edge. Repeat this procedure for the lower “C” triangle, but iron the seam towards the “C” triangle.

The two segments we have just fashioned can be aligned at the nested seam, stitched, and pressed outward. Lastly, incorporate the “B” piece by matching the corners at the base of the corner unit, allowing a tail to extend on the other side. Sew the pieces together and iron the seam towards the “B” piece. Note that there will be two instances of each corner section.

Step 4 – Stitch and Flip Segments

Let’s proceed with assembling the stitch and flip portions of this block. We will initiate with the first stitch and flip segment, utilizing four “D” pieces and four of the “G” pieces. To begin, mark a diagonal line on the reverse side of the “G” pieces.

Next, align two “D” pieces with two “G” pieces for each instance. Arrange them so that the diagonal extends from the bottom right corner to the upper edge of the “D” for one set, and for the other two, the diagonal should span from the upper right corner to the lower “D”. Stitch along the marked lines, then trim 1/4″ from the seam and press it towards the corner. Generate two instances of each configuration following the given diagrams for reference.

Moving on to the subsequent stitch and flip section, we’ll create the diamond in a square. Begin by marking diagonal lines on the reverse side of the remaining “G” pieces.

Align a “G” piece in the corner of an “I” piece in a manner that the diagonal line bisects the corner. Repeat this process with another “G” piece on the opposite corner. Stitch along the drawn lines, then trim 1/4″ from the seam and press it towards the corner. Duplicate this procedure for the remaining two corners on the “I” piece.

Execute this process for all four corners to craft a total of four diamond in a square sections, forming a diamond shape within a square piece.

Step 5 – Crafting the Outer Rows

Let’s proceed by forming the outer rows. Start by taking two of the diamond in a square sections and position them together, sandwiching them with the rectangular stitch and flip units we previously constructed. Pay close attention to the arrangement, ensuring that the stitch and flip corner aligns with the diamond in a square. Stitch the components together and press the seam towards the stitch and flip rectangle. Make two short rows.

Continuing onward, let’s now assemble the top and bottom rows. Begin by sandwiching the remaining two diamond in a square sections with the corner sections. Pay attention to how the pieces are arranged to ensure proper alignment. Sew the corners onto the sections and then press the seam towards the corner. Complete this process to create two rows—one for the top and one for the bottom of the block.

Step 6 – Constructing the Center Section

We now move on to building the central section. To begin, let’s create the two corner sections. Collect 2 dark “E” pieces, 2 “C” pieces, and 4 “F” pieces. Arrange the corner as illustrated below and proceed to attach the “F” pieces to the “E” pieces. Align the right angles of the “F” and “E” segments to ensure a straight edge. Stitch the sections together and press the seam towards the “F” pieces. Lastly, align the “C” piece with the “E” piece by identifying their centers, aligning them, and then sewing and pressing the seam towards “C”. Generate 2 corner sections following this process.

Moving forward, we’ll now construct the center of this section. Gather 2 dark “E” pieces, the single light “E” piece, and the final two “C” triangles. Start by sewing the “E” pieces together, positioning the light “E” between the dark “E” pieces. Press the seam towards the center, which is the light “E”.

Next, attach the “C” pieces to the ends of the row. Just as we did above, locate the centers of the “C” pieces and the row, align them, then sew the pieces together while pressing the seam towards the “C” pieces.

Complete this process to create one row for the center of the section.

Now, let’s bring the corner sections and the center row together to finalize the center section. Align the corners and the center row, ensuring that the seams match up and nest together. Stitch the corner sections to the center row, then press the seams towards the corners. This will complete the assembly of the center section.

Step 7 – Finalize Block Assembly

We’re nearing the completion of the block. Add the two short outer rows to the center section we recently constructed. Pay close attention to the orientation of the outer rows as they align with the center section. Make sure to match up the outer row seams with the points of the “E” pieces on the center section.

Stitch the outer rows to the center section, then press the seams either towards the outer rows or away from the center, depending on your preference.

Proceed by adding the bottom and top rows to the center row that we’ve just assembled. Align the seams and points carefully, and secure with pins. Then, sew the rows together, and finally, press the seams towards the outer rows.
