    Gather the necessary supplies:

    • Rotating Cutting Board (0ptional) – to help turn your pieces without touching them.
    • Quilt ruler: Ensure you have a quilt ruler on hand, as it will help in drawing precise lines and measurements.
    • Marking Pens – I like Frixion because they erase with heat.

Step 1 – Cut the Pieces

Prior to moving forward, it’s essential to have the accurate cutting guidelines at your disposal. Simply make your way to our complimentary resource library, a treasure trove of information, where the cutting instructions await your access.

Once you have the rotary cutting instructions, cut the fabric components, adhering to the specified dimensions and subcuts detailed within the guide. Once all pieces have been prepared, return here for the block assembly stage.

Step 2 – Lay Out the Quadrants

The Connecticut State Quilt Block takes shape through the arrangement of four symmetrical quarters. However, it’s important to note that two of these quadrants sport colors that mirror the other two in reverse.

Take a moment to lay out the fabric components according to the visual diagram provided below. This meticulous arrangement will form the foundation of your quilt block’s design.

Lay out 2 of each quadrant

    Step 3 – Add Piece A to Piece C

First, identify the centers of both Piece C and Piece A – this step ensures precise alignment during the subsequent sewing process.

Once the centers are located, align them and proceed to stitch Piece A to Piece C. Carefully iron the seam allowance towards Piece A. Be aware of which quadrant you are working on, so that the colors are correct in the end. Make 2 of each color way.

Step 4 – Add the B pieces to the Quadrants

Begin by positioning the B piece atop the previously assembled combination, ensuring their right sides are in contact.

Pay close attention to aligning the corner of the B piece with the corner of the C piece. This strategic alignment guarantees that once the B piece is turned and pressed, it will seamlessly form a straight edge. Replicate this process for the remaining B piece as well.

Upon completion, press the seam allowance towards the B pieces for a polished finish. As the quadrant comes together, snip off any excess threads. This approach ensures the completion of two quadrants for each colorway.

Step 4 – Layout the Quadrants and Assemble the Block!

With the completion of the quadrants, it’s time to embark on the arranging and assembling the four-patch block. Let’s dive in.

Start by thoughtfully placing the quadrants in the specified layout, in accordance with the diagram provided below. Unite the quadrants through sewing, meticulously aligning the points. It’s worth noting that the seams should be ironed open for optimal flatness.

Stitch these rows together, carefully aligning the center points. Once sewn, iron in one direction to ensure a neat and uniform appearance.
