Go grab the cutting directions and templates for this block below and let’s get started! The pattern includes rotary cutting instructions and templates if you wish to print the pattern.
Gather the necessary supplies:
- Rotating Cutting Board (0ptional) – to help turn your pieces without touching them.
- Quilt ruler: Ensure you have a quilt ruler on hand, as it will help in drawing precise lines and measurements.
- Marking Pens – I like Frixion because they erase with heat.
Step 1 – Cut the Pieces
The first step in creating the Georgia State Quilt block is to cut the pieces. Before proceeding, ensure you have the necessary cutting instructions. If you don’t have them yet, don’t worry! Simply head over to our free resource library, where you can access the cutting instructions. Once you have the instructions in hand, carefully cut the fabric pieces according to the specified measurements and subcuts outlined in the guide. Once all the pieces are prepared, return here to proceed with assembling the block. Get ready to bring the vibrant colors of Georgia’s peach into your quilt with this exciting cutting process!
Step 2 – Make the HST’s
Make the HSTs (Half-Square Triangles) by marking one color of the B pieces with a diagonal line.

Next, line up the different color fabrics with right sides together, creating four sets.

Sew a 1/4″ seam on both sides of the diagonal line.

Once sewn, carefully cut along the diagonal line to obtain two HST blocks.

After that, iron the blocks towards the darker fabric and trim any excess tails.

These HSTs will add a touch of geometric charm to your Georgia State Quilt Block, perfectly showcasing the state’s beauty in your creation.
Step 2 – Assemble the Block!
As I mentioned earlier, this is a pretty simple block to put together. The block consists of 21 patches and the 4 HSTs we made in the first step. To create the Georgia State Quilt Block, follow the below diagram to layout the patches and HSTs in the correct order. The diagram will also guide you on which way to iron the rows to achieve opposing seams and how to iron the rows to complete the block.

As you piece together the patches and HSTs, be mindful of aligning the fabrics correctly to maintain the aesthetic charm of the Georgia State Quilt Block. The careful arrangement of the patches and HSTs will showcase the beauty of Georgia’s peach colors, while the strategic ironing directions will create neat and polished seams. Enjoy the process and watch as the block comes together to form a stunning quilt that truly represents the spirit of Georgia!
