Step 1 – Assemble the HST’s
Step 1: Assemble the HST Blocks
Once you have all your pieces cut according to the pattern, it’s time to create the Half-Square Triangle (HST) blocks that will add depth and dimension to your quilt. Pair the indicated triangles as noted in the instructions, ensuring that the right sides of the fabric are facing each other. With a 1/4″ seam allowance, sew along the designated edge, securing the pieces together. After stitching, carefully press the seam towards the darker-colored fabric, allowing for a crisp and neat appearance. Once pressed, trim any excess fabric tails to achieve a clean and uniform HST block. Remember to make one of each specified combination, as per the pattern instructions. The finished size of each HST block should measure 2″ square, adding a charming detail to your overall quilt design.

Next, it’s time to incorporate the Piece “B” #5 fabric color to the sides of each HST block you’ve assembled. Referring to the pattern instructions, identify the designated side where the “B/5” fabric should be sewn. Align the edge of the “B/5″ fabric with the corresponding side of the HST block, ensuring right sides are facing each other. Sew along the edge with a 1/4” seam allowance, securely attaching the fabric pieces together. After stitching, press the seam towards the “B/5” fabric to achieve a seamless and polished look. Remember to create one of each specified combination, as indicated in the pattern. The finished size of each block should measure 2 inches wide by 3 1/2 inches long.

Step 2 – Make the Flying Geese Units
Let’s begin by working with the “D” pieces, which form the base of the flying geese units. The pattern will indicate which “E” corner piece corresponds with each “D” base, as well as the specific side where the corners should be positioned. Once you have identified the matching sets, it’s time to assemble them. Take one set at a time and draw a diagonal line on the back of each “E” corner piece. Align one “E” piece along the short edge of the “D” base, making sure the drawn line is positioned correctly. Sew along the marked line, securing the corner to the base. After stitching, trim 1/4″ from the seam to remove the excess fabric corner, and then press the seam towards the corner piece, creating a crisp finish. Repeat this process for the other side of each flying geese unit, following the pattern instructions accordingly.

Step 3 – Start Assembling the Row Pieces
Now it’s time to incorporate the “A” pieces into the units we have assembled so far. Refer to the pattern instructions for the designated placement of the “A” color and unit. Sew the “A” piece onto the corresponding unit, aligning the edges and ensuring right sides are facing each other. Once stitched, press the seam towards the “A” piece.

Step 4 – Assemble the Rows
With all the pieces we’ve assembled above, it’s time to put together the rows and witness your quilt taking shape. Take note of the pattern instructions for the direction in which to iron the seams, indicated by the arrows. This will ensure smooth and neat alignment when the rows are joined. Additionally, pay attention to the position of each piece within each row, as outlined in the pattern. Carefully align and sew the pieces together, following the specified order and placement. By following these instructions diligently, you’ll create rows that seamlessly blend the various elements you’ve meticulously assembled. As you complete each row, you’ll witness the beauty of your quilt design unfolding before your eyes, bringing you one step closer to a finished masterpiece.

Now that all the rows have been assembled with precision and care, it’s time to bring them together and create the final June Flamingo Crows Feet block for the Birds of a Feather Sampler Mystery Quilt. Follow the pattern instructions below to position each row and align the seams accordingly. As indicated by the arrows, remember to iron the seams in the designated direction. This will ensure a smooth and professional finish, maintaining the integrity of each block. As you carefully join the rows, the quilt block will start to take shape, revealing the intricate details and vibrant Flamingo colors that inspired this design. Take a moment to admire your progress and appreciate the artistry you’ve poured into this project. With the completion of this block, you’re one step closer to finishing your Birds of a Feather Sampler Mystery Quilt, a testament to your creativity and quilting expertise.
