I am dedicating this post to the 2022 Designer Mystery Block of the Month. I will update this post as we get our Blocks of the Month and as I am doing the finishing blocks. You can follow along here as we spend the next year completing this beautiful quilt.

Purchase all Blocks & Finishing Kit

Now that the 2022 Designer Mystery BOM is over, the whole quilt block and finishing kit can be purchased in case you missed out last year. This was a fun and comforting quilt BOM and I am so happy that I joined it. You can find the quilt patterns below.

The fabrics that are going to be used in this quilt are Nantucket Summer collection by Camille Roskelley for Moda Fabrics. Below is a link if you would like to see the fabric collection.

Block 12 – Oceanside

The final block in the Fat Quarter Shop 2022 Designer Mystery Block of the Month and alas it isn’t a mystery anymore. The final block has been revealed and it is called Oceanside by Lisa Bongean at www. primitivegatherings.us and the quilt can go together in its entirety. I put a border on my quilt and I show you how I came up with the colors and the dimensions.

Block 11 – Seashore

I love how there are emanating star shapes coming out of the center of this block! Designers: Sherry MConnell – www.aquiltinglife.com Chelsi Stratton – www.chelsistratton.wordpress.com have joined forces to create a beautiful edition to this BOM. Another comforting to block and colors!

Block 10 – LightHouse

One of my favorites so far! Designed by Shelancia Daniel at www.creativityshell.org. This block looks as if it is difficult, but it is not a difficult block at all! So much fun to make and the colors are comforting to look at. From this point on I will be finishing my blocks out after I make them. We are in the home stretch.

Block 9 – Sandcastle

How much fun is this block designed by Joanna Figueroa at www.figtreeandcompany.com. It looks like sandcastles in the sand. I had so much fun making this block this month and the colors are perfect. I also finish out my blocks so far and put together two rows!

Block 8 – Boardwalk

What a cool block this is! I love the floating square in the middle. This block was designed by Corey Yoder at www.corianderquilts.com. I love the simplicity of the block, but it has baht floating square in the middle. Fun and beautiful block to put together.

Block 7 – Driftwood

I needed Block 7! I couldn’t wait to open this and get working on it. The colors are comforting and the design is beautiful yet not too hard. Made me feel very accomplished at the end. I walk you through Month 7 designed by Barbara Groves at www.meandmysisterdesigns.com and we do some HST’s and Flying Geese. The most versatile blocks in the quilting world!

Block Six – Coastline

Block Six – Coastline has been put together for the Fat Quarter Shop 2022 Designer Mystery Block of the Month! This block was designed by April Anderson Rosenthal https://aprilrosenthal.com, and you may remember that she designed the fabrics in my Moda Midnight Moon QAL! We have blues to work with this week too!

Block Five – Windward

Block Five – Windward designed by Vanessa Goertzen – www.lellaboutique.com has been put together for the 2022 Designer Mystery Block of the Month! I think this is my favorite block so far! I love the design and colors and how it all works together for me. I walk through this block and show you how I consolidate some steps!

Block Four – Seagrass

This is another four color block and is comprised of mostly half square triangles! I will show you how I get such beautiful points in my block. Come with me on making this beautiful block designed by guest designer Brigitte Heitlund – www.brigitteheitland.de.

I explain all of that in the video below.

Block Three – Tides

Sometimes minimalism is refreshing and beautiful. This block only has 4 colors and in my video tutorial I will show you how I keep track of the right side of the background fabric (it’s hard to see which is the right side!). I also walk you through how I chain piece everything I can, which way to iron the seams, and lining up seams! Come with me on making this beautiful block designed by guest designer Stacy Iest Hsu – https://www.stacyiesthsu.com.

I explain all of that in the video below.

Block Two – Starfish

This block is pretty easy to construct. There are not fabrics you need to line up and we will basically build four of the same blocks and put them together for one big block! Guest Designers are Karla Eisenach, Susan Kendrick & Lisa Burnett at www.thesweetwaterco.com.

The biggest thing to remember in this block is that the green colorway blocks, the bottom right corner has a different fabric patch. Other then that, the blocks are put together exactly the same!

I explain all of that in the video below.

Block One – Sand Dollar

Guest Designer – Camille Roskelley – www.thimbleblossoms.com

This block is pretty straight forward to put together. The only think that I wanted to change was the direction of the stripe fabric. I didn’t like how the stripe was vertical and the lines didn’t match up, so I switched the stripes to be horizontal.

I will walk you through how I built the flying geese to have the horizontal stripes.

First – I cut the “F” pieces of fabric so that the stripe was with the long edge of the piece. This will place that flying goose with a horizontal strip.

Second – for the Flying goose that has the “D & G” pieces, I had to do a little more work. I laid my “G” striped square so that the stripes were vertical in relation to myself and on four of them I marked the diagonal from bottom left to top right. The final four squares I marked the horizontal from the bottom right to the top left.

Finally – when the squares are sewn into the corner and they are turned, they will now be horizontal to match the other flying goose unit.

I feel that my eye isn’t drawn to lines that don’t match when I put them together like this as opposed to how they show in the pattern.

Please comment below and let me know how you put this block together. Did you go vertical or horizontal with the stripes?
